News from 2015

20 December 2015

Newton Mearns Baptist Church saw us take part in our final engagement of the year. We accompanied the carols at the Church's Carol Service. It was a really nice way to finish the year with LVCB. This was a first for the band and we were made very welcome by everyone involved at the church. Thank you. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from LCVB!

5 December 2015

Another bag-pack and playing experience ... this time at Asda in Newton Mearns. No weather problems this time as we were indoors. Being just into December we performed some festive music and raised £980 ... another tremendous effort by band members and parents at a very busy time of the year.

21 November 2015

Our annual trip to Perth Concert Hall today for the Scottish Youth Band Festival. Playing in the Development Section with 16 other bands we were disappointed to receive another bronze award. Observers not connected to the band though we deserved a gold award but that's contesting!

14 November 2015

Today we had a 4 hour bag-pack at Wholefoods in Giffnock. As well as bag packing the band split into 3 smaller groups throughout the day to play some music for the shoppers. Fortunately the rain stayed away as the playing was done outdoors. Total raised was around £500 ... a great effort by all involved.

20 August 2015

Our first rehearsal of the session! Surprisingly most instruments were in working order and we blew a few cobwebs away!

March 2015

Unfortunately the Brass @ The Bards competition was cancelled at the last moment due to a lack of entries. This was to have been our last event before the summer break.

26th February 2015

Our beginner group gave their first public performance tonight at the East Renfrewshire Brass Concert in Carlibar PS. They played really well and were conducted by Christopher McCloy, who has been working with them since January. In addition to playing on their own the group joined with the rest of LVCB to play Scotland the Brave and Death or Glory. LVCB completed their set by playing A London Prelude, Bohemian Rhapsody and sparkling performance of The Big Top. Later we joined with the other performers, East Ren Brass Ensemble, Barrhead Burgh Band and Croy Band in playing The Great Escape and 500 Miles to conclude a great evening of Brass Music.

12th February 2015

Tonight was our Social Evening at Cafe 158. This was a time to meet and eat without a brass instrument in sight! It was also an opportunity for our newest members to get to know the rest of the band.

15th January 2015

A big welcome to our beginner group who joined us for the first time this evening. We hope you enjoyed the experience and that you will stay with the band for many years. Practise hard ... your first concert is in 5 weeks!
